I would just like to wish all our members and friends of the band a very merry Xmas and a happy new year.
Let's hope that the band continues to grow in quality as well as numbers and that we make many new friends in 2009.
lots of love to you all.

  2. SO I'M A WIMP!!!!

    Ok! So I'm a wimp!!!
Can I help it if I don't like heights?
Can I help it if I dont like being made to feel scared and thrown around like a rag doll by some big fairgound bully of a machine?
All that aside, I still enjoyed myself today (Sat) when we went to Camelot and so did Jean. A little cold but well worth the trip and Jean braved some of the more hectic rides. I hope you all had a great time and that you thank Helena for arranging it.

    • Thank Helena for organizing this trip, the kids had a great time and it was nice to give them a treat after all the hard work.

    • I had a great time too. We went to see the jousting which was really funny. I think we did really well for the weather too and apart from getting a very wet bottom at one point (because of a water ride, not as a result of a ride being tooooo frigthening I might add :-) I was quite warn throughout the day. I have some pics to pass on to Gaz to put on the site. Glad people enjoyed themselves.

    • We all had a great time it was a really good day thanks Helena. :)

  3. Camelot Trip

We've put in a lot of hard work to do as well as we did over the weekend so now it's time to celebrate and have a little fun.

I'm happy to plan a trip to Camelot Theme park on the first weekend in November. They are having halloween fireworks and other activities to celebrate being open for 25years and to mark the end of their season.

If you would be interested in going then let me know. The cost will be based on how many people are going.

    • The cost for the trip is £14. That includes ticket in and transport. We will be going there is cars as there aren't enough of us to hire coach and it will work out cheaper. There will be a note On Sunday with more details. Could everyone bring me there money by Sunday.

      Thanks

      Helena 24/10/2008

    • I have heard from some members to say they would like to go. Nick is planning on sending a note out on Sunday. We're hoping to arrange the trip to cost between £15 and £20 but this will depend on numbers. The more people we get the cheaper it will be. I have spoken to Camelot and along with fire works there are spooky activities happening all day for people to get involved with.

      Helena 18/10/2008

    • Sounds like a fab idea! Great way to celebrate everyones hard work paying off.

      Jess 14/10/2008

    • Great idea! Hard work should reap rewards and how hard you all worked to get to the first contest.

  4. A great weekend in Manchester

Didn't we have a lovely time on the days we went to Manchester. The "seniors" played extremely well in the concert band contest on Saturday (11th) and finished third of seven gaining a Gold Award with Distinction. Well done to all the 13.
Then the Marching Band of all 22 members played and marched really well and although we only finshed third out of four we did win the pretigious "General Musical Effect" trophy (THE one to win). A brilliant Job for your first contest. The only dampener was that Natasha could not be with us. I have sent her all our best wishes and love. Perhaps some of you could do the same?
What did you like or hate about the competition? Do you want to do it again next year? Let us know what you think by commenting on this artilcle.

    • Welcome back and well done.

    • There will be a new training and band session format hopefully starting in November. The plan is for the Full Band to do drill twice a month. We'll have the slow march sorted out in no time and you never know we might even pick up the drill trophy :-)

      Helena 24/10/2008

    • Hi Laura, thanks for the comment (nice to see people using the website).
I think you're right, our marching did let us down a bit. More drill practice before next year then. :-)

      Gareth 19/10/2008

    • I think we should do more but we need to work on are slow marchin.

      Laura 18/10/2008

    • Thank you, Now we've done it I thin kwe have got the competing bug back again and I'm sure you'll be seeing a bit more of us again next year.

      Helena 18/10/2008

    • hi everyone, well done at the weekend.
nice to see you back in compertion.

    • I agree. People said it couldn't be done, questioning how many of the members who had never marched before let alone tried to play, march and remember a routine could possibly get to a good enough standard to go to competition in what was just over 2 months!!! I think everyone should be really proud of themselves. We know what we need to do and so, if everyone is up for it, lets go again next year with a bit more practice and maybe win a few more trophies to show off :-)

      Hel 13/10/2008

    • I agree, well done to everyone. I thought that with only a few weeks preparation we wouldn't have much chance of winning anything, so to get the GME trophy was a great achievement.

I hope everyone wants to compete again next year so we can add a couple more prizes to the list. :-)

  5. CANCELLED BOOKING - TA WREXHAM

The booking to play at the TA Dinner in Wrexham on 15 October 2008 is now OFF, as the dinner itself has been cancelled by the TA. They hope to have another dinner before too long and would like us to play for that. So much for an army marching on its stomach!
